A Gold color metal and enamel device 1 3/32 inches (2.78 cm) in height overall consisting of a cross couped Argent charged with a fleur-de-lis Sanguine, a Maroon scroll below the cross containing the motto "A NOTRE PUISSANCE" in Gold letters.
The cross is used as a symbol of mercy and the fleur-de-lis represents overseas service, the whole composition being in the colors of the Medical Department. The motto is translated "To The Best Of Our Ability."
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 12 July 1941.
